The French striker, who recently joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £79m deal, was reportedly a long-time fan of United.
Despite that, The Athletic claims United’s inquiry was met with a firm response—Ekitike was only interested in joining Liverpool, not them.
This came after United contacted Frankfurt to express intent to speak with the forward’s representatives following Liverpool’s opening offer.
Ekitike’s team made it clear he wouldn’t entertain any other club, killing United’s hopes before a formal offer was tabled.
It’s the second high-profile snub for United this window, following Viktor Gyokeres’ preference for Arsenal despite interest from Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, United spent over £127.5m on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, who bring 37 goals and 15 assists worth of firepower.
Still, with Marcus Rashford gone to Barcelona and others deemed surplus, United may return to the market before the window closes.
Rebuilding their frontline continues, but big names keep slipping through their grasp.
