Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has defended the club’s decision-making surrounding Thomas Partey’s release following serious criminal allegations.
Partey, 32, was charged by British authorities with five counts of rape and one of sexual assault dating from 2021 to 2022.
The Ghanaian midfielder’s contract expired on June 30, and Arsenal confirmed they would not be offering him a new deal.

Just days after his exit, news broke of the charges filed against Partey, sparking questions about the club’s handling of the case.
In a statement released on July 4, Arsenal clarified that due to legal proceedings, they were unable to comment further.
Speaking during a press conference in Singapore, Arteta insisted that Arsenal acted appropriately and followed correct internal procedures.
“I’m 100 percent convinced the club did things the right way,” Arteta told reporters when asked about Partey’s contract situation.
He added that the matter was complex and bound by legal limitations, preventing him from going into further details at this time, reports EDMUNTON SUN
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid for £45 million in 2020, was a regular feature last season in midfield.
He played 35 Premier League games and 12 in the Champions League, scoring four goals before his contract came to an end.
