The Catalan giants opted for Asia over their usual U.S. tour but have run into serious logistical and financial turbulence.
A planned stop in Japan was abruptly cancelled after organisers failed to pay the agreed amount, halting Barça’s schedule.
Initially, the club even explored alternative local matches before former sponsors Rakuten offered to step in and cover the cost of the Japan leg. However, the situation remains tense.
According to SPORT, Barcelona have only received €10 million of the total fees—covering matches in South Korea.
The €5 million for the Japan fixture versus Vissel Kobe had not been processed.
Rakuten promised to pay, but only if Barça flew to Japan first. Club president Joan Laporta and his team, however, insisted on receiving payment before boarding, reports Barca Universal.
Now, journalist Víctor Navarro reports that although Rakuten has fulfilled the €5 million payment, new problems have emerged—this time with the airline.
These issues have forced the team to delay travel until at least Friday.
Barcelona’s players are ready and packed, but the trip hangs in limbo, awaiting final instructions from the club.
