Chelsea are closing in on a sensational deal to sign Ajax’s teenage sensation, Jorrel Hato, potentially dashing Arsenal’s long-standing hopes of landing the defender.
The 19-year-old Dutch prodigy made headlines in 2023 when he became Ajax’s youngest-ever captain at just 17, earning global recognition.
While Arsenal were reportedly close to signing him years ago, the deal fell through, and Chelsea now appear set to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Blues have already had a busy summer, adding Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Estevao to boost their attacking depth.
Now, Chelsea have turned their focus to strengthening their defence and see Hato as a key long-term investment.
Despite early reports of a €40m fee, Ajax are now demanding up to €60m, and personal terms remain to be finalised.

Given Arsenal’s depth in defence with Saliba, Gabriel, and Timber, Hato might not have had regular minutes at the Emirates.
Even with Chelsea’s bloated squad, Hato could find more developmental opportunities than he would under Mikel Arteta.
According to Transfermarkt, Hato’s current market value stands at €35m, but Chelsea may pay much more to secure him.
