Garcia praised the 21-year-old’s tactical awareness and versatility, calling him “a fantastic addition” to a team entering a new managerial era.
He highlighted Carreras’ ability to play full-back, wing-back or third centre-back, describing him as extremely intelligent in reading the game.
Garcia believes this adaptability suits Xabi Alonso’s style, especially as the manager is building a fluid and modern tactical structure.
“Álvaro fits perfectly. He’s smart, versatile, and trained in Madrid’s system,” Garcia said during an interview with Diario AS this week.
Carreras is no stranger to Real Madrid. He previously spent time in La Fábrica, the club’s famous youth academy, before leaving.
His return to Santiago Bernabéu comes after standout performances in Portugal, where he developed physically and matured tactically.
Javi Garcia, who played 90 games for Madrid, says players like Carreras are key for a smooth managerial transition, reports Madid Universal.
He added that Carreras understands the club’s identity, making him an ideal long-term fit for Xabi’s tactical project.
All eyes now turn to pre-season, where Carreras hopes to impress and earn a regular starting role in Madrid’s lineup.
