The Swedish striker was left out of Newcastle’s Asia tour, initially due to a minor injury, but it was soon revealed he seeks a transfer.
Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea were all linked, but Fabrizio Romano has ruled out the latter two as serious contenders.
Romano stated United consider Isak too expensive and are not working on a deal, despite needing a top striker this summer.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were linked briefly, but Romano confirmed they are happy with their current forwards and not interested in Isak now.
He revealed Liverpool are the only club actively pursuing the striker, following Hugo Ekitike’s decision to join them over Manchester United.
United have now shifted focus to other options and held talks with Aston Villa about Ollie Watkins earlier this week, reports TBR.
Villa insist Watkins is not for sale, though United could test their resolve with a substantial offer if interest persists.
With United and Chelsea out, Liverpool appear poised to make a serious push for Isak before the transfer window closes.
