After criticising outdated facilities, especially Carrington’s swimming pool, Ronaldo’s concerns triggered overdue investment to modernise the iconic training ground.
Ronaldo reportedly refused to use the pool due to loose, chipped tiles, deeming it unsafe. That moment sparked internal discussions.
Now, ahead of the 2025/26 season, United will unveil a completely revamped £50 million Carrington complex with major enhancements.
For a year, players used academy areas while construction teams refurbished the entire two-tier building to world-class standards.
The new facility includes state-of-the-art cryogenic chambers, upgraded gyms, improved lighting, and a unique Premier League-first—an in-house barbershop for players.
Carrington’s new layout uses a performance-enhancing flow system: changing rooms, gym, pool, and recovery areas now follow training sequences precisely.
Architectural firm Foster + Partners, led by Lord Norman Foster, oversaw the project—previously known for Wembley and Qatar’s Lusail Stadium.
This redevelopment also complements last year’s £10 million women’s and academy centre, continuing the club’s high-performance infrastructure transformation.
Finally, Ronaldo’s long-ignored concerns have sparked a lasting legacy—a modern, elite facility fit for football’s biggest names at Manchester United.
