Awaziem joins Nantes from Colorado Rapids on a three-year deal, returning to a club where he once impressed on loan.
The 27-year-old center-back previously played for Nantes during the 2017/18 season, making 23 appearances and scoring one goal for the team.
Starting his career at El Kanemi Warriors, Awaziem later joined FC Porto’s youth academy and made his senior debut in 2016.
He has since played for clubs across Europe and the MLS, including Turkey, Spain, Croatia, Portugal, and the United States.
Awaziem has represented Nigeria since 2017, earning 34 caps and playing at the 2018 World Cup and multiple AFCON tournaments.
Standing 1.89 meters tall, he is known for his physicality, aerial ability, and improving skills in distributing the ball effectively, reports Soccer Net.
Awaziem described Nantes as “home” and expressed his determination to help the club achieve success and return to European competition.
His return is timely as Nantes rebuild after Moses Simon’s departure, hoping Awaziem’s experience will strengthen their defense this season.
Nantes fans will look forward to seeing their returning Nigerian defender boost the team’s ambitions and solidify their backline once again.
