Yamal, a La Masia prodigy, has dazzled since breaking into Barca’s first team at just 15, already collecting La Liga and Euro titles.
Now 18, the gifted winger continues to impress with his maturity and composure, prompting Aguero’s praise and words of warning.
Speaking to Stake.com, Aguero said: “The No.10 has great weight—Messi, Ronaldinho, Maradona. Lamine has shown incredible skill and character for his age.”
He added: “He’s managed pressure well for both Barcelona and Spain. I think he’s earned the 10 with how he’s performed.”
But while admiring Yamal’s development, Aguero was quick to stress that Messi comparisons do more harm than good at this stage.
“Leo is unique. His legacy is unmatched in football, especially at Barcelona. Lamine must carve his own path,” said the ex-striker, reports Goal.
Aguero emphasised that constant comparisons overlook Messi’s once-in-a-generation achievements and place unfair pressure on Yamal’s shoulders.
The young winger seems unfazed by the spotlight, but he’ll need sustained brilliance to step out of Messi’s long shadow over time.
